COFRET Consultation on the Future Harmonisation of Methodologies for the Carbon Footprinting of Freight Transport
Given that COFRET is now in its final year, discussions have begun about how the work of COFRET can be continued after the formal end of the current contract as funded by the European Commission.
We have produced a discussion document that outlines a variety of possible arrangements for how future work could be organised and the types of issue that need to be considered. The options presented have been initiated through discussions with our partners in the COFRET Advisory Board, officers in the European Commission and other relevant contacts from interested companies, organistions and representative bodies from around the world. The discussion document as circulated can be downloaded here.
We sent the discussion document with an associated consultation survey to a selection of key stakeholders in May 2013 and have just finished analysing the results. The survey shows that although there is agreement that the work initiated by COFRET needs to continue, and there is strong consensus over the majority of the issues to be covered, the organisational arrangements will need a considerable amount of work in order to ensure buy-in from all essential stakeholders. The results of the consultation survey can be downloaded here.
With this in mind we will be organising a 1 day workshop, to be held in late October 2013, to discuss the details and most promising options with this group of key stakeholders. Anyone who has not yet been involved in the consultation but who would like to receive an invitation to the workshop should contact Alan Lewis at TTR.
